The last few weeks have been over the top. Mostly because I have been organizing a pop up exhibition of the work from the department in the last semester. The show opens this Friday and is also up all day Saturday. The woodworking department has been working as a team to renovate a vacant storefront into a usable gallery space. We spent last Thursday and Sunday scraping, sanding, priming and painting. The space looks great and this week I am editing the final details of the show. Everyone gets to put in a piece of their choosing, and I am really excited to see what it looks like all set up. We are crossing our fingers that there will be a big turnout, and hopefully the posters that I put up around the city will help with that. The walls were an absurd Purple and Green combination so the nice even coat of white we applied really cleaned the place up. This Friday will surely be a busy day as the show opens Friday evening, MECA is hosting its annual Holiday Sale, another class I am taking is opening a separate Pop up shop. I am involved in all three events and they all happen from 5-9pm. Although the Wood show is my priority, I will attempt to be present at all three if time allows. If you happen to be in Portland this weekend, make sure you check out my show, FRESH CUTS: Contemporary Woodworking from Maine College of Art. The Show is located at 49 Oak Street, Portland, ME. We will be open from 5-9 on Friday and 10-5 on Saturday. There will be some great work in the show!
